RAYMUNDO SESMA - Biography
Raymundo Sesma. Multidisciplinary Mexican artist, he has lived and worked between Milan and Mexico since 1980. He teaches artistic seminars, has obtained numerous national and foreign scholarships and has created one hundred individual exhibitions. Among his exhibitions: Meditative, 1989-2003, Museum of Modern Art, Mexico City, cause and effect, Nina Menocal Gallery, Mexico City, 2004; Development of a social architecture project, Museum of Decorative Arts, Prague, 2005; Rosso for direct democracy IX, MyOwnGallery, Milan, 2006 and Expanded Field VII. Site specific intervention, Balelatina, Basel, Switzerland, 2007. In 2008 he took part in the third international biennial of the artist's book, Alexandrina Library, Alexandria, Egypt; Large Field V and VI, Ollin Yoliztli Cultural Center, Mexico City, and Extended Field XIX and XX, Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in the City of Puebla; in 2009, XXII expanded field, Nina Menocal Gallery, Mexico City, and in 2010 exhibited XXVII expanded field at the Venice Détournement 2010, 2nd. edition, Certosa Islands, Venice and XXIX Expanded field, Architecture Biennale, Venice, XXXII Expanded field in Puebla in Mexico in 2011, 11th Biennial of Havana, Cuba, 2012 among others. He was awarded the 2007 Honor Award by the American Institute of Architecture with his work Expanded Field VIII, held in the city of Albuquerque, New York, United States. S's works are in collections such as: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Musée d'Art Moderne, Paris; The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo; Museum of Modern Art, Mexico and Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon. He twice participated in the Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition in 1986 and 1993. In 1995 he created Advento, A.C. with the concept of "social architecture", the purpose of which is to develop a series of actions and objects related to society, contemporary art and design. In 2013 presented at the Noción Hábitat exhibition at the Luis Adelantado México Gallery. In 2014, the works acquired for the development of the Alberto Rossini work in Milan in Italy, the intervention on site of the Fortune building in Mexico City, were invited to the Polytechnic of Milan and the Riccardo Catella Foundation to participate with the graphics in the Small Window, A century of Gratacieli in Milan.
